Choose between an Alabama trial-court record, your statewide criminal history and an employer screening program

Task Official route What you receive
Find a specific Alabama trial-court case Just One Look / Alacourt Case-level court information and document images when available, purchased case by case.
Review your own Alabama criminal history ALEA Criminal Records Fingerprint-based personal criminal-history record through the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
Qualifying employer screening ALEA Alabama Background Check program Restricted service for qualifying employers checking current or prospective employees; not a general public people-search tool.

Just One Look is a paid court-case search, not the statewide criminal-history repository

Case-number search

A case-number search is also $9.99 and includes one case detail, making it the more precise path when the number is already known.

What the detail can show

The service describes court settings, actions, rulings, party information, case-action summaries, financial information and available document images.

Court document images have a separate Just One Look charge

Price the document before opening it

The current Just One Look price information lists document images at $5 for the first 20 pages and $0.50 for each page after page 20. If the reader only needs the case number or disposition field, identify that first rather than purchasing a large image set unnecessarily.

A court-case search and ALEA statewide criminal-history record answer different questions

Court case

Alacourt/Just One Look is organized around Alabama trial-court cases. A court search can identify a filing and its case-level history.

Criminal-history repository

The ALEA Criminal Records service is the state criminal-records route. ALEA’s Criminal Records unit maintains fingerprint-based offender-history information submitted to the state repository.

Do not substitute products

If an agency asks for a fingerprint-based criminal-history record, a paid case lookup is not equivalent. If the task is to inspect a particular court disposition, the statewide history is not a substitute for the actual case file.

For your own Alabama criminal history, ALEA publishes a fingerprint-based request process

  1. 01
    Complete the personal record request

Use ALEA’s personal criminal-history application and follow its fingerprint instructions.

  2. 02
    Include fingerprints and photo identification

ALEA requires fingerprints and a current photo ID for the personal-history request.

  3. 03
    Pay the published fee

The current ALEA page lists $25 for the request and $5 for each additional copy, payable by money order or cashier’s check.

  4. 04
    Choose delivery route

ALEA publishes both an in-person address at 301 S. Ripley Street in Montgomery and a mail route to its Criminal Records address. Use the current page before sending the packet.

The Alabama Background Check program is for qualifying employers, not general public searching

Follow the requester’s authorized process

ALEA describes its Alabama Background Check system as a secure service for qualifying employers to obtain criminal-history information on current or prospective employees. If an employer or licensing process sends the applicant through that program, use its authorization and instructions rather than buying a Just One Look court search or sending a personal-history request as a substitute.
